About Prof. Mimouni

Prof. Michael Mimouni heads the Cornea Unit in the Department of Ophthalmology at Rambam Health Care Campus and serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Technion Faculty of Medicine. He also chairs the Israel Cornea Society on behalf of the Israeli Ophthalmological Society. In 2023 and 2024 he was ranked among Israel’s leading ophthalmologists in the field of cornea by Duns 100, a ranking based on a comprehensive survey of ophthalmologists in Israel.

Prof. Mimouni completed his medical studies at Tel Aviv University and his ophthalmology residency at Rambam within the prestigious “Atidim” research track, earning excellence awards from Rambam Medical Center and the Israeli Ophthalmological Society. He also took part in specialist training programs funded by the European and international societies for cataract and refractive surgery.

Prof. Mimouni broadened his expertise during a two-year fellowship at an international center in Toronto, Canada, focusing on cataract, cornea, dry eye, and laser vision correction, supported by prestigious scholarships from Rambam, the Israeli Medical Association, and the American Physicians Fellowship for Medicine in Israel. During his fellowship he worked alongside leading experts, gained experience in the most advanced techniques of corneal transplantation and eye surgery, and was involved in developing cutting-edge treatments for dry eye.

In research, Prof. Mimouni is engaged in scientific and clinical work in cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery, and dry eye, with more than 250 publications in medical journals. He also serves as an editor and reviewer for leading medical journals, and in 2020 received the Technion’s Outstanding Lecturer Award. He is an active member of leading professional societies in Israel and abroad, and is actively involved in educating the next generation of eye specialists.

Prof. Mimouni sees patients at the following clinics:

  • The Dry Eye Center, 11 Galgalei HaPlada St., Herzliya Pituach: he sees patients there every other week on Tuesdays, both privately and through the supplementary insurance plans of Leumit and Meuhedet.

  • Maayan Medical Center, 10 Marconi St., Haifa: he sees patients there every other week on Sundays, both privately and through the supplementary insurance plans of Leumit and Meuhedet — patients who came to the Maayan Medical Center Dry Eye Center through supplementary insurance cannot be examined there (no reimbursements will be given).
